Growth and contrasts in the machinery sector
In the second quarter of 2024, Italy’s plastics machinery industry showed mixed growth signals, according to the quarterly business survey conducted by Amaplast, an important analytical tool for all industry operators. The study involved 35 full members of the association, providing a detailed overview of sector dynamics during this period.
The collected data shows a 10% increase in machinery order intake on the Italian domestic market. This rise represents a breath of fresh air for the sector, indicating a recovery and growing confidence among domestic operators. However, the international outlook appears less favorable, with a 6% decline in foreign orders. This decrease is attributable to the high level of uncertainty stemming from current global developments, such as geopolitical tensions and global economic fluctuations, which have negatively affected foreign demand.
A particularly positive aspect emerging from the survey concerns the spare parts market. These components recorded an increase in sales both in Italy and abroad. Specifically, spare parts sales grew by 11% on the domestic market and by 17% on the international market. This positive trend can be interpreted as a sign of stability and operational continuity for customers, who prefer to invest in spare parts to maintain and optimize the efficiency of their existing equipment rather than making new machinery purchases during a period of uncertainty.
